TEL HI Hosts Fun STEAM Fair for Kids in San Francisco

June 3, 2024

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – TEL HI Neighborhood Center in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood recently hosted its 4th annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) event, providing a fun and educational experience for local kids. The family-friendly event on May 17th aimed to inspire children’s curiosity in STEAM subjects through interactive activities. Organized by TEL HI’s Makerspace Educators, the STEAM extravaganza featured diverse hands-on experiences catering to preschoolers through 5th graders. Kids explored robotics, coding, 3D printing, arts and crafts, and more – fostering creativity, problem-solving, and a passion for learning. To create an engaging event, TEL HI partnered with the Randall Museum, North Beach Library, FRC Robotics team from Galileo Academy of Science and Technology, Sila Nanotechnologies, TEL HI’s Senior Program and students from the Francisco Middle School Beacon. These collaborators hosted exhibits, demonstrations, and activities related to their STEAM expertise.

Hands-On STEAM Learning Experiences

Throughout the fair, children participated in a variety of immersive STEAM activities, such as:

  • Building and programming LEGO robots
  • 3D printing and design challenges
  • Paper airplane aerodynamics experiments
  • Recycled materials art projects
  • Coding games and computer programming basics

These experiences allowed kids to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills while nurturing their interests in STEAM fields. “Our goal is to inspire the next generation of innovators and creative thinkers,” said Josh Feierstein, TEL HI’s Director of Programs. “Providing kids with fun, hands-on STEAM learning opportunities at an early age can spark lifelong passions.”
