Holiday Message From TEL HI’s Executive Director

Happy Holidays! As 2022 comes to a close, all of us at TEL HI are thankful for our community, our staff, and our wonderful supporters, like you, whose donations make a tremendous impact on the lives of the people we serve.
This year was an exciting year at TEL HI! We completed a major renovation of our North Beach playground, providing a safe and fun place for all our children to play each day. For many of our children, TEL HI’s playground is the only place they have to be outside, exercise and play with friends— and they love it! We also converted an extra classroom into a Makerspace, a space designed and dedicated to children so they can learn creatively. We hired a Makerspace Educator and equipped the space with the tools and materials necessary for children to build products using their imagination and their hands.
As we look forward to 2023, one of our major goals is to continue to address learning loss, which is a problem for many students, especially underprivileged students, and provide even more opportunities for low-income students to succeed in school. To achieve this goal, we will:
Invest in a brand-new curriculum for our Early Childhood Education program that is designed to provide foundational skills that will better prepare our preschoolers for kindergarten and beyond.
Implement a focused math curriculum in our Elementary After School program using cutting edge diagnostic tools that will assess the areas in which they need the most support.
Expand our STEAM program, including utilizing credentialed SFUSD teachers to work with individuals or small groups to provide the students with the support they need.
