Stepping Forward for Families: TEL HI’s Response to the SFUSD Strike

February 12, 2026

The San Francisco Unified School District labor disruption has created real and immediate challenges for families – especially working parents and caregivers who rely on schools not only for education, but for stability, meals, and safe spaces for their children.

At TEL HI, our priority is simple and unwavering: the well-being of children and families comes first.

To support our community during the teachers’ strike, TEL HI is taking the following steps:

  • Providing full-day emergency childcare, recognizing that many families cannot miss work.
  • Serving elementary, middle, and high school students, understanding that children of all ages are affected.
  • Offering a safe, structured, and enriching environment where children can learn, play, and feel supported.
  • Addressing food insecurity by providing three meals a day to children who rely on school meals.
  • Leveraging community and institutional partnerships to secure additional space so we can accommodate as many children as possible.
  • Prioritizing unhoused, housing-insecure, and marginalized children, who are often most impacted during times of disruption.
  • Hiring additional staff to ensure appropriate supervision, safety, and quality programming.
  • Preparing for longer-term care should the strike continue beyond the short term.
  • Most importantly, our goal is to turn no child away.

TEL HI has always stepped forward in moments of uncertainty, and this moment is no different. We will do everything within our capacity to provide safety, nourishment, and care, and to continue serving as a trusted resource for our children, youth, and families.

We are grateful to our staff, partners, and supporters who make this response possible, and we will continue to adapt as the situation evolves.
