Millie Fong, Tai Chi Instructor

July 10, 2014

Millie has been volunteering at TEL HI since 2003. She became aware of TEL HI when she began taking tai chi classes here over 10 years ago. The classes were offered through SF City College but were taught at TEL HI. When her teacher retired, Millie jumped on the chance of using the space to teach free classes to adults and seniors.

I became interested in teaching Tai Chi Qigong to seniors because I love seniors. These days it seems everyone puts their time and focus on the children, but it’s important that seniors have a healthy and happy life too. This class is a place for seniors to exercise, socialize, and feel good. I don’t treat them as students—we are a family. We talk and share stories and news about anything special going on.

Today Millie teaches up to 35 seniors Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am–11:30 am. On weekends, she is a paid instructor teaching Tai Chi and other martial art classes, but at TEL HI her classes are open to anyone who wants to join.

We are proud to call Millie family. Thank you Millie! You mean so much to us.
